After Deciding To Purchase A Hermit Crab You Have To Get The Home/Cage/Crabitat Ready For Them To Come Home In. Its Fairly Simple.
Different Cages :
- A Glass Tank (Preferred)
- A Glass Tank Keeps The Humidity In Which They Need 70% Humidity To Survive.
- A Plastic Tank
- Good As A Temporary Cage But Not Long Term. But If You Choose, Put Plastic Wrap Ontop Of The Lid And Poke Some Holes. Helps Keep The Humidity In.
The Floor Bedding :
This Is Very Important Since Your Hermit Crabs Will Be Walking On This All The Time. No Matter Which One You Pick You Need 2-3Inches Of It So The Hermit Crab Can Bury Its Self.
- Hermit Crab Sand
- Best Floor Bedding. Its Soft And They Love To Walk On It.
- Kids Play Sand (Newly Bought)
- Just As Good As Hermit Crab Sand But Way Less Expensive.
- Gravel
- Not Recomended For Full Tank Bedding. Can Be Put Where The Food And Water Bowls Are.
- Coconut Bedding
- Purchase At Pet Stores In Hermit Crab Section.
Food :
Hermit Crabs Are Not Picky Eatters. There Diet Is Mostly Fruits,Vegtables, And Sea Food. Do Not Feed Them Any Sugary Food. They Dont Like Eatting The Same Thing Every Day Straight So Change It Up Here And There. Mix The Pet Store Food With Bananas And Grapes They'll Love It. Also Unsalted Nuts.
Water :
They're Drinking Water Can NOT Contain Chlorine. They Have Gil's And It Will Kill Them. So Use Bottle Water. They Need 2 Water Bowls .
First Water Bowl :
Regular Bottled Water In There
Second Water Bowl :
Water With Hermit Crab Salt Or Sea Salt. This Bowl They Use To Bathe And Should Contain A Sponge In It.
Toys
They LOVE To Climb. So Have Sticks And Nets To Climb On. They Also Like Having Huts To Hide In. So Make Sure You Get Those :)
HUMIDITY !!
Humidity Is A Must For Hermit Crabs. They Need At Least 70% Humidity. One Will Need To Purchase A Heating Lamp And A Humidity Gauge.
Extra Shells :
Always Have Extra Shells Available Because They Like To Change Shells When One Gets To Small They Like Going To Bigger Ones.
